The way in which a deck is constructed depends on the site conditions and the height of the deck.  Shown below are three diagrams of a typical deck on a flat, raised and sloping site.

Apart from the way the deck is constructed, the materials used are the main factor in achieving a solid and durable deck, which will give trouble free service for many years.

We use pressure treated timber throughout, for the support timbers, boards and handrails, ensuring that the whole deck will have a design life of at least 15 years.

On a sloping site the deck is typically supported on slabs or blocks at the back and on "stub posts" set into concrete at the front.

A raised deck is supported throughout on "stub posts" set in concrete, the support beams will typically be 150 x 50mm timbers, bolted to the columns.

A handrail is essential in this case.

Finally the level deck is usually the easiest to contruct, with 100 x 50mm timber beams supported on slabs or blocks.

We install a weed barrier fabric under all our decks to ensure there will be no weed growth.
